Shedeur Sanders, the son of head coach Deion Sanders and a transfer from Jackson State, is the presumed starter in his first season at Colorado. The Bears did not sign a quarterback in their 2023 recruiting class. Noah Mitcheom and Tyler Jensen (who began his career at Louisville) are walk-ons. The only other scholarship quarterback is Fernando Mendoza, a two-star from Miami in the Class of 2021. He joins TCU transfer Sam Jackson V, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021 and the only other player on the roster who has attempted a pass in college he went 5-for-5 in two seasons with the Horned Frogs. He is a grad transfer with three years of eligibility remaining. That changed with the addition of Ben Finley, a transfer from NC State who started the final two games of the 2022 season - a win at North Carolina and a loss to Maryland in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The Bears exited spring practice without a quarterback on their roster who had attempted more than five passes in college. The most notable (by far) is true freshman Jaden Rashada, a top-100 national prospect who made headlines for his much-publicized break-up with Florida. The one with the most experience is Trenton Bourguet, who came to Arizona State as a walk-on in the Class of 2019 and started five games in 2022. Conover, however, threw only 11 passes in his three seasons at BYU (he didn’t enroll until 2020). The most veteran of the bunch is Jacob Conover, a transfer from BYU who was ranked No. But three other scholarship quarterbacks are on the roster. Drew Pyne, a former four-star recruit in the Class of 2020 who started 10 games at Notre Dame last fall, is the favorite heading into preseason camp. Arizona Stateįew programs will have as much intrigue at the quarterback position in 2023. Redshirt freshman Cole Tannenbaum is a walk-on. 349 in the Class of 2023, is Arizona’s highest-rated quarterback signee since Matt Scott in 2008. He attempted 19 passes as a true freshman last year. Noah Fifita was one of the four Anaheim (Calif.) Servite products who signed with Arizona in the Class of 2022. He has two years of eligibility remaining. The former three-star prospect out of Hawaii played two seasons at Washington State before transferring to Arizona. Jayden de Laura is entering his second year as the starter.
